Workforce
The Catskill region is home to a highly educated and skilled workforce. Most of the counties in the area show a high school graduation rate of 80% or better, and the number of workers with a college degree is in the range of 17 & 22%.
The current workforce numbers show that the largest group of workers are between the ages of 35-55, with most
counties showing a smaller number of workers in the 25-35 range. Most of the workforce is engaged in the professional, administrative, and service/retail trade.
The area also provides workers and employers with a number of programs to maximize economic growth through workforce development initiatives and training for employees, and economic development programs for employers.
With its professional workforce and nearness to the hub of alternative energy research in the region, and several “Tech Valley” companies located in the Hudson Valley, the area is considered a prime location for the establishment of “green collar” jobs that are being developed in New York with assistance from State and local economic development organizations.
